Committee members work together to organize volunteer recruitment and retention programs, plan fundraising events, and manage other matters consistent with KEEN’s mission and the Board’s direction. If you are interested in joining the Coaches Committee, please contact KEEN at (415)710.4412 Coaches Calendar about Rickey - Lead Coach, Sports My name is Rickey Ono and I have been volunteering as a Coach with KEEN SF since its inception in 2006 and have recently joined the Coaches Committee to provide more in-depth leadership to the training of other coaches and further development of existing and new programs. I enjoy volunteering at KEEN and building relationships with developmentally disabled youth. It’s inspiring to be part of the progress KEEN Athletes make with their coordination and social interactions. I keep coming back because it’s a rewarding experience to see the youth evolve their skills, but most of all to laugh and smile with them, especially knowing that their day-to-day environments are generally sheltered and structured. In addition to KEEN, I’m also volunteering at other non-profits that focus on youth: I co-host a monthly Crafts Night at Ronald McDonald House at Stanford, where I work on arts & crafts with seriously ill kids and their families; I also mentor a 14-year-old foster youth through Advocates for Children/CASA of San Mateo County, where I also oversee his court-appointed support resources; additionally, I am a Project Leader at Hands On Bay Area, where I manage teams of volunteers at various nonprofit organizations around the Bay Area. When I’m not volunteering, my day job is a marketing manager at Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto. I was born in San Francisco and live in Menlo Park. Hobbies include eating and running. I’ve gotten to know a lot of athletes and their families, but now that you know me a little better, feel free to say hi to me at the next session! about Coach, Paul My name is Paul Stainier and I have been volunteering as a KEEN SF Coach since August of 2009. I am a Junior at Lowell High School in San Francisco and am the high school representative on the Coaches Committee. KEEN San Francisco is a great way for sports lovers like me to give back to the community. The kids are what keep me coming back to KEEN each week! Seeing them smile and having a good time is the greatest reward anyone could ask for. Come join in on the fun you've been missing! about Charles - Lead Coach, Basketball My name is Charles Chiparo, and I have been volunteering as a Coach with KEEN SF since 2009. KEEN is a great way for me to give back, and help those with special needs. The athletes at KEEN are amazing young people, and it is satisfying to see them show up to the YMCA, excited for a session to begin. I also enjoy watching some of the athletes continue to improve their skills (athletic and communication) from month to month. The volunteers that show up never cease to amaze me. Some young, some old, some from SF, others from the far reaches of the East Bay. It is reassuring to see that there are so many people willing to take time out of their busy lives to volunteer. Lastly, I am glad that we can provide a little bit of a break for the parents of these athletes. These parents are the true heroes, as not many people can imagine the level of effort required to properly care for a special needs child. When I’m not volunteering, I work as a project manager for a large bay area General Contractor. My hobbies include biking, climbing, windsurfing, and reading anything I can get my hands on. Though, with a wife and two young children, all of those hobbies are subject to availability. about Coach, Karina My name is Karina Otrokhova and I have been volunteering as a coach with KEEN SF since May of 2010. Since then I have had the great opportunity to serve on the Gala planning committee and have assisted with event planning for various fundraisers benefiting KEEN SF. In addition to my experience volunteering with KEEN, I’ve worked with organizations assisting the homeless, at-risk youth, and as a tutor for an after school program. Words can’t describe my time spent working with KEEN athletes. Every session has been a learning experience and a wonderful new memory. The athletes are all so unique, so inspiring, and truly unforgettable. The simplicity of their delight is such a beautiful thing to see and be part of. There’s seriously nothing better than hearing the joy of achievement when one of our athletes makes a difficult basketball shot or catches a tough pass. Happiness is contagious at KEEN. When I’m not volunteering, I am busy chasing my bliss and eating lots of snacks. Watching Oregon State Football is also an important part of my life, as are sports in general. Definitely a sucker for any ESPN 30 for 30 film or a good documentary. about Coach, Leah My name is Leah Morelewski and I signed up for my first KEEN volunteering event through Hands On Bay Area in June 2010. My intent was not to solely focus my time with KEEN—but this is exactly what happened. All it took was one basketball session with the KEEN athletes and I was hooked. I enjoy sports and staying active, so KEEN is a great way to give back to special-need athletes who share this same interest. I love watching the athlete’s anticipation and excitement before each program beings. They absolutely cannot wait to run free on the basketball court, or practice their swim at a pool session. Watching this energy and the smile on their faces makes me excited, and it is what keeps me coming back as a KEEN Volunteer. Outside of KEEN I work for a New York based company called Health4Brands and we specialize in pharmaceutical marketing. My company recently re-located me to San Francisco to better assist our West Coast clients and the move has been a wonderful change. My personal hobbies include hiking and trail running, and I have been consumed with exploring the many beautiful trails the Bay Area has to offer. I am happy to have found KEEN SF and the Bay Area, as both have been uplifting additions to my life!
